Vancouver is Awesome: Alumna Sarah Polkinghorne shares what it’s like to be a female brewmaster

Vancouver is Awesome featured NC Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management alumna (2017) Sarah Polkinghorne in an article posted March 13.

Polkinghorne is the head brewer at Black Kettle Brewing in North Vancouver, B.C. While initially working on the quality assurance side of the beer industry, she developed a love for the brewing process, which is what led her to NC’s Brewmaster program.

The article mentions how Polkinghorne made connections with other women in the industry – through the Society of Beer Drinking Ladies and the Pink Boots Society – and was inspired by their success. As a way to give back for the help she received from other female brewers during her journey, Polkinghorne has planned a collaboration event with the Pink Boots Society and the female employees at Black Kettle Brewing. On March 21, the brewery will create a beer called SMASH using the Pink Boots Society’s special hop blend that raises funds to support women in the industry.
