VP Academic Fiona Allan provided the following update to students on June 23:
With a strong focus on ensuring a safe learning environment, Niagara College will see a significant increase in on-campus learning when Fall term classes begin in September.
Recognizing that students need ample time to plan for their studies, delivery modes for all programs and courses have been finalized, with more than 80 programs offering on-campus learning this fall. Many programs will mix remote and in-person learning, while a limited number of programs will see a continuation of fully-remote learning for the fall. Should changes in COVID trends or government restrictions require further changes in program delivery, students will receive updates directly from their program area.
As we look to provide as fulsome an experience as possible for our students, we will continue to closely monitor pandemic information, vaccination rates and public health guidance and directives, and increase or enhance on-campus services and activities where it is safe to do so and permitted within the province's re-opening framework. Regular updates will be provided over the summer months.
All on-campus activity will comply with public health measures and directives for Fall term. We are planning with the expectation that measures such as physical distancing, health screenings and PPE requirements will continue to be in place in September.
Our planning also incorporates the lessons and best practices learned through two successful terms of hybrid delivery at NC, which have included on-campus classes and labs as required for many programs. Almost half of our students have experienced an on-campus/ in person element to their program through the Fall 2020, Winter 2021 and Spring 2021 terms. From modified spaces and strict access controls to enhanced personal protective equipment requirements, our College has a proven track record of success when it comes to ensuring the safety of our students and employees.
