St. Catharines Standard: NC alumnus and professor’s graphics-free video game comes to PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch

On March 15, the three Niagara dailies (St. Catharines Standard, Niagara Falls Review and Welland Tribune) announced that a graphics-free video game, co-created by NC School of Media Studies Professor Dave Evans and alumnus Payl Boyko (Computer Programmer Analyst (Co-op) program, 2016 and Game Development program, 2019) is now available on PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch.

The Vale: Shadow of the Crown” is a graphics-free video game featuring an adventure driven by audio and haptic controller feedback. It was nominated by the Game Awards in 2021 in the innovation and accessibility category. The game has been available on PC and Xbox since 2021 and on March 15, it dropped on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, making it available for the first time on the Nintendo Switch, PS4 and PS5 platforms.
