The Niagara Dailies and The Grimsby Lincoln News reported on the passing of NC alumnus Paul Pender (Winery and Viticulture Technician, 2006), who died tragically on February 3 at the age of 54. Pender was the Director of Viticulture and Winemaking at Tawse Winery, where he completed his co-op as a student in 2005.
The article mentions how Pender, who won Winemaker of the Year at the Ontario Wine Awards in 2011, had great success at Tawse, spearheading a move to organic and biodynamic production and helping the winery grow its production from 2,000 cases of wine to 30,000.
Comments from Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton and the town’s Director of Economic Development and Communications Paul Di Ianni are also included. Ianni notes, “Paul’s impact and influence in the Ontario grape and wine industry cannot be understated. He leaves behind an indelible legacy…(one) that we know will be celebrated for decades to come.”
