Niagara College wrapped up its Fall 2024 Convocation ceremonies today, celebrating nearly 2,000 graduates – the largest Fall Convocation in the College’s history.
Four ceremonies were held over two days at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at NC’s Welland Campus.
The morning ceremony began with a celebration of 535 graduates from programs within the School of Academic and Liberal Studies and School of Business and Management. The afternoon ceremony honoured 415 graduates from programs within the School of Community Services, School of Justice and Fitness, and School of Nursing and PSW.
NC President Sean Kennedy took the podium to share heartfelt words with graduates, encouraging them to reflect proudly on their NC journey and the moments that led to this special moment.
“This ceremony is about you,” said Kennedy. “It’s about looking back on where you’ve come from, it’s about being present in this moment to feel the groundswell of pride from your supporters and champions, and most importantly, to feel proud of yourself.”
He also reflected on how dreams shape what lies ahead, urging graduates to stay inspired and keep their ambitions alive in this new chapter.
“This ceremony is about your dreams – the dream you’ve realized by joining our Niagara College alumni family, the dream you’re stepping into as you enter new careers or further educational pathways, and the dreams you’ve yet to imagine for your future.”
Special thanks were given to Niagara College Student Administrative Council (NCSAC) President Dipal Patel, who has participated in 38 NC convocation ceremonies over the course of her presidency. Friday’s afternoon ceremony was Patel’s last as a member of the convocation platform party, as she concludes her last term as NCSAC President in spring, 2025.
“Dipal exemplifies the very best of what it means to be part of our Niagara College family,” said Kennedy.
Each of the four ceremonies opened with a special performance by local Indigenous-led women’s drum group, the Strong Water Singers, whose songs celebrated the triumphant journeys and achievements of NC graduates.
A highlight of this year’s Fall Convocation ceremonies was the presentation of an Honorary Diploma in Skilled Trades to Chuck McShane, CEO of the Niagara Home Builders’ Association. McShane was honoured at the Thursday morning ceremony for his leadership in the skilled trades and home-building industry, his advocacy for youth in trades, and his dedication to community involvement and student learning.
McShane offered inspiring advice for graduates to carry forward as they leave their NC journey behind and embark on new paths.
“In the book of life, you have closed one chapter, but started another,” said McShane. “Your story will continue, and although it won’t always be a fairytale, it will be yours to write. Find courage when there is weakness, happiness when there is despair and resilience when faced with challenges.”

At the end of each ceremony, graduates received well wishes from inspiring alumni through a video showcasing individuals from diverse NC programs who are now thriving in unique roles and sectors, offering a glimpse into their bright futures.
Graduates from the Fall 2024 Convocation ceremonies join the 5,500 graduates from spring 2023, becoming part of a proud community of more than 120,000 Niagara College alumni.
All Fall Convocation ceremonies were livestreamed and will remain available for viewing on Niagara College’s convocation website. Visit niagaracollege.ca/convocation to watch the ceremonies and celebrate the accomplishments of the Class of 2024.
