Priyanka, the drag alter ego of NC alum Mark Suknanan, graced the cover of ELLE Canada in June 2021.
NC alum Mark Suknanan (Broadcasting – Radio, Television and Film, 2012), a TV personality and winner of Canada’s Drag Race in 2020, is the first drag queen to grace the cover of ELLE magazine. In the digital feature published on June 21 entitled ‘All Hail Queen Priyanka,’ Suknanan appears as drag alter ego Priyanka. The digital feature includes a behind-the-scenes video of Priyanka’s photoshoot featuring a variety of looks and fashions.
The piece reflected on Priyanka’s career, beginning with her success on Canada’s Drag Race, where she debuted herself as an “Indo-queer West Indian queen” to show others that they are represented and inspire them to achieve success.
In 2020, Suknanan delivered Niagara College’s convocation address and was presented with the College’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
