Ten graduates from Niagara College’s English for Academic Preparation (EAP) program accepted their certificates of completion at the NC Suwon campus in South Korea during NC’s EAP End of Term Celebration on August 7.
Current students, graduates, NC Suwon and University of Suwon (USW) staff, and guests attended the socially distanced celebration to mark the success of the graduating class this past term. The ceremony included speeches from both NC staff from Suwon and Canada, thanks to digital technology.
With the goal of enrolling in a Niagara College program upon completion of EAP program, two of the EAP graduates began their online post-secondary classes at NC Canada this Fall, from their home countries with the other eight grads expected to begin online classes in future terms.
Byounguk Park, an EAP program graduate and current Business Administration – Supply Chain and Operations Management student, explained that although online learning can be challenging, it allows him to study in the comforts of his home.
Park, who has hopes of working for Amazon one day, found that NC’s EAP program was an excellent opportunity to learn about college programs and recommends EAP in Suwon based on its high academic quality programming.
“All of the teachers at NC Suwon are the best of the best,” said Park. “They are very kind and encouraging to students.”
Niagara College also welcomed NC Suwon EAP graduates to post-secondary studies in Canada during its Winter 2020 Term. The students, who originally hail from South Korea and Vietnam, joined the college’s Culinary Management, Computer Programming and Hotel and Restaurant Operations programs.
Thanh Tu Nguyen, who started at NC in Winter 2020, explained that studying at NC Suwon improved her English and made her better prepared for her studies in Canada.
“The NC Suwon’s EAP program guarantees Canadian education quality standards with a team of native and experienced teachers,” said Nguyen. “I have experienced many diverse activities of the EAP program at NC Suwon and the University of Suwon. The modern facilities at the University also helped me have the best learning environment. I’m glad that I chose Niagara College to study.”
Reflecting on his experiences, Byungwoo Chung recommends studying at NC Suwon as the program allows students to experience Niagara College before arriving to Canada.
“The quality of the teachers was very good. I also received a lot of information about living in Canada. It has been very helpful not only for lectures at NC Canada but also understanding Canadian culture.”
Niagara College Canada expects to welcome more students in 2021 through the NC Suwon pathway, furthering the College’s reputation as Canada’s Global College.
NC Suwon is one of Niagara College’s global campuses that enhances student mobility and preparedness through English language skill acquisition and information about NC’s academic programs. Delivered at the University of Suwon’s state-of-the-art facilities in Suwon, South Korea, the programs are developed, delivered, and administered by NC’s School of English Language Studies.
