Two of NC’s Brewmaster and Brewery Operations Management program alumni are featured in the Summer 2021 issue of Brewers Journal Canada.
Alumnus Russell Gibson (2017) is included in a story about Fenelon Falls Brewing Co. for his role as head brewer. In the story (see cover and pages 18-23), Gibson shares his educational and career experience leading up to his latest role with Fenelon Falls, where he creates beers including IPAs, lagers, pale ales, sours and stouts, as well as hard seltzers.
Alumna Jamie Shillow (2014) and her husband Ben are also featured in the publication on pages 38-41. The story mentions how the Shillows first founded their beer company, Shillow Beer Co., in 2014 as a contract brewing operation in Toronto. With a desire to start their own bricks and mortar operation, they relocated to Ottawa to open their brewery and raise their family in a more affordable location.
Both Fenelon Falls Brewing Co. and Shillow Beer Co.’s new operation opened during the COVID-19 pandemic, which the publication highlights as examples of the brewing industry’s “ability to adapt and thrive through the most challenging of circumstances.”
